As Jane Austen fan-fic, this book is lots of fun. But as a P.D. James mystery, it's a total bust. And here's what I'll never get over: two men are wandering at night in the woods. One, or perhaps more, gunshots are heard by several people. One of the men is found dead, but the cause of death is a blow to the head. The reader NEVER learns if the dead man's gun was fired. And if it wasn't, then where did the shots come from? Shots? What shots? They're just forgotten about as though it never happened.
